Here are your May and June messages and lesson plans.

There are several ways you can implement this content:
  • Take 10 minutes to read the message (either on the PA system, in-house television system or as a class read-aloud), and then follow-up with the discussion generators.

  • Take 20 minutes and ask students to complete the worksheet.

  • Take 30 minutes or more and choose one of the outstanding follow-up activities written for each academic area by an award-winning educator.

  • Honoring Those Who Teach
    Teacher Appreciation Week: May 4-10, 2008
    Almost all of us can point to a special teacher whom we admire. Students explore the idea that what we admire most in others is what we ourselves would like to possess. They also consider how best to show appreciation for the teachers who have made a meaningful difference in their lives.

  • Brave Hearts
    Moral courage requires that we act upon the principles in which we believe, while being conscious of the risks involved. Moral courage can be encouraged and taught by example and by practice. Learning to have the courage of one's convictions is an important part of creating a life that is both successful and meaningful.

  • Everyone Has a Gift
    Each of us has a gift to give the world, a special talent, ability, or skill. It's important that young people consider what their gift is and how they can use that gift to make the world a better place. Students explore the idea that they each have unique qualities and talents and the external support systems to develop them.

  • Endings and Beginnings
    High School Graduation
    Students have the opportunity to reflect on their experiences in high school, both their successes and their poor choices. By taking the positive experiences with them and learning from their mistakes, they will carry more wisdom and confidence into the next phase of their lives.

  • Safe or Sorry
    Student Safety Month: June

  • Every day, young people are injured unnecessarily. They break bones, injure eyes, become permanently disabled, or even lose their lives because some safety precaution wasn't taken. Students explore the benefits of taking safety precautions and the consequences to themselves and others when they don't observe safety rules.
    Key Ideas: Staying safe during outdoor summer activities - Safety Rules

  • Directing Your Own Life
    Every time students act responsibly, they earn more trust. With that trust usually comes more freedom to choose. Being trustworthy can mean making some tough short-term choices, but long-term, it can mean having greater control over one's future. Students explore the idea that the benefits of making responsible decisions far outweigh the costs.
    Key Ideas: Taking responsibility for one's choices and actions - Taking responsibility builds trust which can create more freedom in our lives.
