A Letter of Thanks From a Parent

As a parent of teenagers, I am a believer in the saying "it takes a village to raise a child." I also believe that teachers are part of the lifeline in that village. In my busy days, I may not have always had a chance to say thanks to each of you who have touched my children's lives, but I have thought it, and every day I see the impact.

To each of you who have had a hand in teaching my daughter to write her name, and to solve her first algebra problem, I want you to know that she has now moved on to a successful college experience. I thank the elementary, middle and high school educators who helped get her to where she is today. Part of her success is due to your success.

My family still benefits from your dedication. Thank you for the phone calls, words of encouragement, emails, and sometimes prayers. I understand all the hard work that goes into teaching and the patience it takes. My children may not have said it, but they noticed that you cared enough to call and remind them to "pay attention."

I want educators to know how grateful I am as a parent and how you have impacted all of our lives. So if you ever find yourself wondering if you make a difference and how, read this, and know that you have. Every day, as a parent, I see the impact and say thank you to all the dedicated educators who do make a difference.

Sincerely,

Suzanne Johnsen
